Kitchen Chalkboard Fun

Yay, I’m so happy! My kitchen chalkboard is done. Pearce said we would make a kitchen chalkboard about six months ago and it got relegated to the bottom of the honey do list. Well I decided to take matters into my own hands. Now I have an easy place to write down my grocery list and leave fun notes. Course I’ll probably still forget something.

Because I was just making a small chalkboard I bought the tiny jar of paint they sell at Walmart in the craft section. It worked fine, but the two coats it recommended was really insufficient. I used five. Maybe it was the surface… I don’t know. I made it out of plywood, which required significant sanding obviously, to produce a nice surface. And some wood filler. And some gel medium. Thinking back, maybe I should have just bought some nice wood. Otherwise it was a really easy project. The paint dried fast and I finished it in one day. The label said to let it cure 24 hours before priming the surface, so I suppose it actually took two.

The best part of the whole thing is trying my hand at some of that fancy typography that litters my Pinterest feed. This one specifically was cute and wasn’t too hard to duplicate. Okay, for a first attempt.
